How to use Google Gemini in Google Docs

Step 1: Access Gemini in Google Docs

• Open Google Docs
• Open a new or existing document
• Look at the top-right corner
• Click the Ask Gemini icon
• The Gemini sidebar will open on the right side
• Start asking Gemini questions or give it writing prompts

2. Use Drive Files as Context

3. Generate and Refine Text

• Right-click inside the Google Doc
• Select Help me write
• Type your prompt and generate the draft

Prompt:

“Write a detailed section about how AI is changing the way students learn, study, and complete assignments.”

After the text is generated, select the section and click Refine to improve it.

Refine options:

• Summarize: Extracts the key points.
• Bulletize: Formats the text into a bulleted list.
• Shorten: Makes the text more concise.
• Elaborate: Expands on the text with more detail and explanation.
• Rephrase: Rewords the text.

You can further refine the generated response, insert the new text, or replace the original text.
