• Plan trips, projects, study sessions, or weekly schedules

• Draft, rewrite, and summarize text

• Search the web and work with uploaded files

• Create or edit images, depending on your available limits

For everyday conversational writing, regular Chat is usually enough. But the free plan also includes limited access to ChatGPT Work, which is designed for larger assignments with a finished result.

Work can research a topic, read several files, analyze information, and produce something you can download and use—such as a report, project plan, presentation, PDF, or spreadsheet.

Add the Spreadsheets Plugin

ChatGPT becomes much more practical when you install plugins for specific types of work.

The Spreadsheets plugin, for example, allows ChatGPT to create and edit spreadsheet files. It can organize raw information into tables, apply formulas, create charts, and build multiple workbook tabs.

Once the spreadsheet is ready, you can download it and open it in Excel or import it into Google Sheets. Other plugins can connect ChatGPT with services such as Google Drive, GitHub, Slack, Notion, and Gmail, although availability and permissions can vary between accounts.

Save Repeated Work as a Skill

If you regularly ask ChatGPT to follow the same process, you can turn that process into a Skill.

A Skill is simply a saved workflow. It remembers the instructions, format, examples, and rules needed for a particular task, so you do not have to explain everything again in every conversation.

Once installed, you can type @ and select the Skill whenever you want ChatGPT to follow that workflow again.

Gemini: A Free AI Assistant From Google

Gemini is especially useful if much of your work already happens inside Google’s ecosystem.

The free version provides access to Google’s Flash-Lite, Flash, and Pro models under standard usage limits. It also includes tools such as:

• Connected Google apps

• Canvas for creating documents and simple projects

• Gems for specialized assistants

• Image generation

• Deep Research

• Quizzes, flashcards, and audio overviews

Unlike a fixed message allowance, Gemini’s limits depend on the model, the complexity of the request, and current demand. More demanding tasks use the available allowance faster, while lighter everyday requests can be used more regularly.

Gemini’s biggest advantage is how naturally it fits alongside other Google products. If your files, emails, documents, and study materials already live with Google, it gives you an AI assistant without requiring an entirely separate working environment.

NotebookLM: Research Using Your Own Sources

A regular AI assistant answers from its general knowledge and the information available online. NotebookLM now being introduced as Gemini Notebook—works differently. It begins with the material you provide.

You can add:

• PDF and Word documents

• Websites

• Google Docs and Slides

• Public YouTube videos

• Audio recordings

• Images and copied text

Once the sources are added, you can ask questions about them, compare information, and receive answers with citations pointing back to the original material.

NotebookLM can also turn those sources into study guides, briefing documents, reports, mind maps, flashcards, quizzes, and audio or video overviews. This makes it useful for students, researchers, writers, or anyone trying to understand a large collection of information.

The free allowance is generous:

• 100 notebooks

• 50 sources in each notebook

Chat, research, and audio or video generation now use a shared AI allowance. How quickly you use it depends on the task. Check Settings → Usage to see your remaining allowance and when it resets.

For most individual research and learning projects, those limits provide more than enough room to do meaningful work.

Wispr Flow: Write by Speaking

Typing is not always the quickest way to get an idea onto the page. Wispr Flow lets you speak naturally and turns your voice into clean text inside the app you are already using.

Kimi Slides: Turn Information Into a Presentation

Creating a presentation usually involves two separate jobs: deciding what to say and designing how it should look. Kimi Slides can handle both.

You can give it a topic, paste existing text, or upload a document. Kimi can then organize the material into a presentation with:

• A clear slide structure

• Written content

• Visual layouts

• Images and icons

• Charts and data visualizations

• Consistent colors and typography

It can also research a subject before building the presentation, which is useful when you need more than a visually attractive template.

Once the presentation is ready, you can review it online, make manual changes, present it from the browser, or download an editable PowerPoint file.

Kimi provides free credits that refresh monthly. Credit use depends on the amount of research, content, and visual work involved. According to Kimi’s current guidance, a simple presentation generally uses around 1–2% of the free allowance, while a large research-heavy deck will use more.

This makes the free plan practical for occasional presentations rather than a one-time demonstration.

Replit: Build a Basic Website or App

Replit gives beginners a way to create software without setting up a traditional coding environment.

You describe the website or app you want, and Replit’s AI Agent helps create and edit the project. The code, preview, files, and publishing tools all live in the same workspace, so you do not have to install several separate developer tools before getting started.

The free Starter plan includes:

• Daily credits for the AI Agent

• Lite Build for focused changes

• Design Canvas

• A built-in development workspace

• One published project

The free plan lets you publish one app, with a public link that stays active for 30 days. It is useful for sharing a small project, but should not be treated as permanent free hosting.

Full Build, which lets Agent handle more work independently, requires a paid plan. Replit’s built-in connectors for services such as Google and Stripe also require an upgrade

However, the Starter plan is still useful for learning how AI-assisted development works, testing a simple website idea, or creating an early prototype.

Seedance: The Best Free Tool for AI Video Creation

If you want to experiment with AI video without paying upfront, Seedance is one of the strongest options available.

Created by ByteDance and available through Dreamina, Seedance can generate videos from a written description or animate an existing image. You can also provide images, videos, audio, and style references to guide the result more closely.

Seedance is particularly useful for creating:

• Social media clips and visual hooks

• Product videos and short advertisements

• Cinematic B-roll

• Animated concept art

• Story-driven scenes with multiple shots

• Videos with coordinated motion, dialogue, and sound

The latest version, Seedance 2.5, can generate videos up to 30 seconds and handles connected shots, camera movement, character consistency, and audio more reliably than earlier versions.

Dreamina offers limited free credits for trying video generation. The models and settings available can vary by account and region, so check the credit cost before generating. Not every Seedance 2.5 feature is necessarily included in free access.
