Meta Declaring War on Ads

Meta's AI-Driven 'Infinite Creative' Model to Transform Advertising

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has introduced a bold vision to automate ad creation and delivery using AI. Dubbed “infinite creative,” the system lets businesses input their goals and budgets while Meta’s AI handles everything else—from generating content to targeting and performance tracking.

Key Features:

  • Automated Ad Creation: Meta’s AI crafts ads, selects target audiences, and optimizes campaigns using performance data, removing the need for manual creative input, targeting, or analysis.

  • Industry Reactions: Advertisers are wary, citing concerns over transparency and control. As one agency CEO noted, “No clients will trust what they spit out as they are checking their homework.”

  • Financial Implications: Meta reported Q1 2025 revenues of $42.3B (up 16% YoY) and net income of $16.7B (up 35%). It raised its 2025 capital expenditure forecast to $64–$72B to fund AI development.

Meta’s AI model could reshape the ad industry, reducing dependence on agencies while raising concerns about transparency and the future of human creativity.

Amazon Enters Space

Amazon Launches First 27 Project Kuiper Satellites to Challenge Starlink

On April 28, 2025, Amazon launched 27 satellites for Project Kuiper aboard a United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket from Cape Canaveral. This is the first step in Amazon's $10 billion plan to deploy 3,236 satellites into low-Earth orbit to deliver high-speed internet and compete with SpaceX’s Starlink.

Key Developments:

  • Operational Status: The satellites are active and communicating with ground control. Customer service is expected to begin later in 2025.

  • Deployment Timeline: The project will require 80 launches, and per U.S. FCC regulations, 1,618 satellites must be deployed by mid-2026.

  • Competitive Landscape: While competitors like Eutelsat and SpaceX are entering the market, SpaceX leads with 7,200+ satellites in orbit and clearance for up to 34,400.

This launch signals Amazon’s serious entry into the global satellite internet race.

AI Highlights of the Week

  • Alibaba Unveils Qwen3 AI Models to Rival OpenAI and Google

Alibaba released Qwen3, a new open-source AI model family (0.6B–235B parameters) that rivals top models from OpenAI and Google in some benchmarks.

Qwen3 supports 119 languages, uses hybrid reasoning and MoE architecture, and excels in tasks like coding and tool use. The top-performing model isn’t public yet, but smaller versions are competitive and downloadable.

It’s a major step for China’s AI amid ongoing U.S. chip restrictions.

  • OpenAI Adds Shopping to ChatGPT, Rivaling Google

OpenAI added shopping to ChatGPT Search, letting users browse products and buy through merchant links, with no sponsored listings (for now).

ChatGPT gives personalized picks based on user preferences and online reviews, covering categories like electronics and fashion.

Monetization isn’t active yet, but OpenAI plans to explore options.

  • Huawei Develops AI Chip to Rival Nvidia Amid U.S.-China Tech Tensions

Huawei is testing its new Ascend 910D AI chip, aiming to rival Nvidia’s H100, with samples going to Chinese firms in May.

Amid U.S. export bans, China is pushing local chip use. Huawei will ship 800,000+ older chips and expand systems like CloudMatrix 384.

President Xi calls for AI self-reliance and faster development of core tech like chips and software.

  • Google Testing New AI Mode in Search, Rolling Out to U.S. Users

Google is rolling out its new AI Mode search tool to a small percentage of U.S. users, offering AI-generated answers under a new tab in Search.
