How to Stop OpenAI from Using Your Chats
Want more privacy for your ChatGPT conversations? Turning off one setting stops your new chats from being used to train OpenAI’s models, without removing them from your chat history.
To keep your future conversations from reaching human reviewers for model improvement, follow these steps:
Step 1: Open ChatGPT
Go to ChatGPT and sign in to your account.
Step 2: Open Settings
Click your profile icon in the bottom left corner.
Select Settings to open the settings window.
Step 3: Open Data Controls and Turn Off Model Training
Select Data controls, then click Improve the model for everyone.
In the Model improvement window, make sure Improve the model for everyone is switched off.
Check that Include your audio recordings and Include your video recordings are also Off, then click Done.
Your chat history stays available, and this preference applies across your account, so you do not need to repeat the change on every device.
Privacy note: OpenAI says this applies to new conversations. Human review may still occur for safety, support, or legal reasons. Conversations you submit feedback on may also be used for training.
